Essay About Rock Music Example For Students

Essay About Rock Music In this essay, Im going to introduce to the reader a topic not touched a lot because of its complexity and its avoidance by conservative adults. This topic is, of course, Rock Music. During one week, I looked for information in the library and at my house, and from the information I gathered and my one knowledge about the topic, Im going to lead the reader to a better understanding of Rock n Roll. I chose to do Rock music because I can identify myself with it. Rock music is very complex. In factâ€Å"Its stylistic scope is to broad to be encompassed by any single definition† (†Rock Music†, Groliers, p.1). The nearest definition suggests a kind of music that represents and speaks for the teenage society. This music is characterized by using a heavy beat. In this essay, Im going to divide Rock music into four sections: Rock of the 50s, of the 60s, of the 70s and of the 80s. Within these sections Im also going to discuss several sub-topics such as famous composers and groups, and characteristics of the music. The first section of this essay is Rock n Roll of the 1950s, when Rock n Roll was born. It emerged from rhythm and blues, a music similar to jazz played by blacks. This kind of music started to attract white teenagers. Disc jockey Alan Freed was the one who introduced this music and later gave it the name of Rock n Roll. Record companies distributed records played by whites but composed by blacks. Whites were frustrated because there werent any white artists and they didnt want the blacks to be the stars until Bill Haley appeared with his â€Å"Rock Around the Clock†. In this decade, Elvis Presley introduced a music that was sexual suggestive and outraged dull adults. In time he changed the style of the music by adopting a country and western style and became a national hero. By the end of this decade and the start of the next, Rock n Roll started to decline because it was formula ridden and it was too sentimental. Teenage audiences transferred their allegiance to Folk music. In 1963 the renewal of Rock n Roll came when The Beatles started to play. The Beatles, for some the best rock group ever, were from Liverpool, England. Through the 60s, The Beatles dominated the record industries and with their dominant instrumentation, which included: electric leads, rhythm, and bass guitar, drums and sometimes an electric organ, changed the name of Rock n Roll to just Rock. During the 1960s many other styles of music arose from Rock like, Motown, Soul music, Jazz-rock , Folk-rock and others.Folk-Rock the most appreciated of this derivations and was first suggested by Bob Dylan. This kind of music brought to folk music a hard beat and amplification; and to Rock, a new poetic style. California was one of the major centers of rock activity and experimentation during the decade. First it was characterize for its surfing music, a very joyful music that reflected the fun people had while surfing. The Beach Boys were the ones who introduced this kind of music. At the end of the century this happy kind of music changed to a more rebellious style that was designated the name of â€Å"hippie music†. Groups that played this music were Country Joe and The Mamas and The Papas. Along with this hippie ideas popularity of hallucinogenic drugs produced a psychedelic style of music called Acid Rock. By the end of the 60s the distinctions between Rock n Roll and Rock were evident. The early instruments- saxophone, piano, amplified guitar, and drums- had been changed to electric guitar and bass, amplified drums and other electronic devices. .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 , .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .postImageUrl , .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 , .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:hover , .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:visited , .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:active { border:0!important; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:active , .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9 .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub063dbee903dfe5fdb8393425288bfa9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Stephen Crane Essay Not only did the instruments change but so did the ideas behind the music. For example, â€Å"to the lyrics of teenage love and adolescent concerns were added social commentary, glorification of drugs and free-association poetry†(†Rock Music†, Groliers, p.1). Groups like The Beach Boys, Crew Cuts and The Everly Brothers were replaced by more imaginative, non-descriptive names groups like The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and Holding Company. The Who, the most famous of these groups, were originally from England and were reknowned because of their bizarre stage performances, they would destroy their instruments after their performance finished. The Who was one of the first rock groups. In the 70s, the common barriers of rock broke into more divisions, like hard rock and mellow rock. Hard Rock was extremely loud and electronically amplified and Mellow Rock was softer and with acoustic instruments. In 1972, in Jamaica, a new style of music was created called Reggae. Reggae is a mixture of rock, soul, calypso and Latin music. The king of Reggae was Bob Marley. Other styles more in rocks borders, since Reggae was more latin than rock, were created in the middle of this century, like: bubble gum rock, a funny playful music directed to the youngest fans, Punk Rock, â€Å"a loud, hard rock style derived from acid rock and marked by its extremes of costume and staging† (†Rock Music†, Encarta, p. 1), and Heavy Metal, which continued the approach to Acid Rock but with a simpler musical dimension but relying upon the power of repetitiveness, loud volume, and electronic distortion. One famous group of Heavy Metal was Led Zeppelin, a British group that was formed in 1968 by Jimmy Page (lead guitar), Robert Plant(lead singer), John Paul Jones (pianist and bassist) and John Bonham (drummer). Most music of this decade was intended to be listened to, but not to be danced. But this intention wasnt kept by Disco music that arose in 1977 and was especially for dancing. One great group of Disco music were the Bee Gees. Disco music was described by rock fans as mechanical, commercial and unlyrical (which is true). At the end of this decade, rock, again became a dominant cultural force. The last but not least section of this essay is rock of the 80s. At the start of this last decade, rock groups became more production oriented, mainly because of the sudden explosion of videos. This new sensation was a good way to sell music to the people. Heavy metal bands were greatly pushed by videos, but most helped were the popular performers like Michael Jackson, Prince and Boy George. The influence of British bands of punk, disco, reggae and pop-rock was still big in the U. S. Rock scene. At the same time, there of nostalgia to return to the older pre rock music, like rhythm and blues, which was suggested by played by Elvis Costello. By the middle of the 80s, almost every country had begun to support indigenous music, and at the end of this â€Å"a vigorous talk-song style called rap became extremely popular among urban black teenagers† (†Rock Music†, Encarta, p. 1.).Rock music taught me to appreciate things in a different way. Ive learned this since rock is not an exact science, it can change. In fact Rock music helps me relax ( I would have been able to finish writing this essay with rock music). After writing this essay I have learned the origins of rock and the branches of it, but that wasnt my intention. I wrote this essay to express myself with it because I feel I can show myself with rock music. I think rock has become social phenomenal.

Is the Cost of College Too High?

Is the Cost of College Too High? There has been an interesting debate raging in a number of quarters recently about whether or not it is the cost of college that is causing students to become more disruptive and less interested in completing their coursework. Is this at all possible? As I stated in my last column, as the cost of college continues to rise, more students are unable to make the monthly payments to keep their loans paid off. The most obvious reason for this is that many students cannot afford the rising costs of living and food, let alone the massive costs of tuition, books, and transportation to and from school. Is it really possible to write an argumentative essay that states the importance of the financial costs of college to anyone? The simple answer is yes, it can be done if you're willing to think beyond just the interest rates on student loans. Of course, this argumentative essay must also address the value of attending college. The cost of college and the value of at tending college are two different things. College is an investment that will pay dividends for the rest of your life. It is difficult to understand why someone would pay money for a degree but not want to use that money in the future. While there are many ways to talk about the value of attending college without necessarily saying that it is the cost of college that is causing students to lose interest, one way to provide real value is to show the connection between attending college and finding employment. So, if the argument is being made that students are no longer looking for jobs because they simply don't have the money to pay the bills, one would definitely have to say that the student should have thought of this before going to college. If the students truly think that the high cost of college is holding them back from success, they should have found a way to finance their education in other ways, rather than using their college tuition to pay for everything, like many do. They should have recognized that they could make savings by becoming self-employed, getting a part-time job, or even taking out a personal loan to afford school and a car. Remember, a car is useful, but not if you don't drive it.If the argument is being made that the high cost of education is taking students away from the big picture, one can only say that someone should have made a larger financial commitment before they left home. We need to consider the impact of the rising cost of education on our future economic stability, and rather than blame anyone for this, we should try to find a solution.

IB Point Sample Essay - Tips to Improve It

IB Point Sample Essay - Tips to Improve ItIf you are looking for a way to improve your IB Point Sample Essay, then you will want to look at the following tips for making it better. You will find that if you follow these suggestions, you will improve it dramatically and get a passing grade on it.First of all, when you do the IB Point Sample Essay, you should try to write in the essay style that is most appropriate for you. The whole point of doing the IB is to learn how to make sense of different types of essays. As you go through the exam, you will have many opportunities to reread the sample. In this way, you will be able to see how the essay and format are laid out and what works best for you.You also want to take note of what your teachers say when they see your score report. This will give you an idea of how they would grade your essay if they were grading it for themselves. The second tip I would give you for improving your paper is to make sure that you finish the entire multipl e choice exam. Some people just give up on their essay by just putting it away and not getting any work done on it. When you do not finish your essay, you are much more likely to choose a question that you know is going to be a slam dunk. They even allow the student to select one that has a chance of being wrong. Some students might think that if they have many multiple choice questions that they are getting the better of the IBI. However, this is a fallacy. I would say that the odds of the student having more questions than answers are only slightly in their favor. With this, you need to make sure that you finish your essay. The third tip for improving your essay is to keep things simple. If you find yourself taking up a lot of space or too much time to explain the different parts of the essay, then you need to decide whether it is worth it to spend a lot of time on it. Maybe just as well give up on it and move on.The fourth tip for improving your essay is to study up on what your te acher's notes say about your essay. Some may be vague, but others might have a more detailed explanation. You want to make sure that you study up on these tips and that you follow through with it, even though you don't think it is necessary.

Moby Dick Essays (699 words) - Moby-Dick, Captain Ahab, Ishmael

Moby Dick MEN GONE MAD Peoples dreams can make them insane. One person can be entirely focused on a particular event that the event soon begins to take over their life and influence others. Captain Ahabs intent is finding and killing Moby Dick, the whale that maimed and disfigured him years ago. His obsession with this whale puts many others in danger, such as Ishmael, Starbuck, and himself. Captain Ahab uses his shipmates as bait for Moby Dick himself. The day the ship leaves the dock on a search for whales, the men are trapped in a world gone mad with no escape. Ishmael, Starbuck, and Captain Ahab are all trapped in an unfortunate tragedy. Before boarding the ship, Ishmael sees a person on the dock beside the whaling boat. This persons name is Elijah, coincidentally sharing the same name as the prophet. Elijah hints to Ishmael to turn back from this voyage while he still has time. Elijah states that Ahab shall smell land where there be none, Ahab shall go to his grave but will rise within one hour and beckon, and all save one will be destroyed. Ishmael disregards him and continues. When Ishmael is ready to board the ship, Elijah warns him again. This is a sign that something terrible will happen once aboard the ship and everything and everyone will be traumatized. If only Ishmael would know, he will soon be trapped in Ahabs crazy world. Performing a pagan ritual before the groggy crew, Captain Ahab swears the men to join him in hunting down the white whale Moby Dick and killing him to satisfy Ahabs desire for revenge. Starbuck is horrified, while the crazy ranting of their captain wildly inspires members of the ship. This is an evil voyage. I fear the wrath of God. Service to mankind that pleases God is not revenge.1 Greatly fearing what Ahab has in store in the world gone mad, Starbuck foresees tragedy. Nailing a doubloon to the main mast follows the crazy ranting and Ahab says, Whosoever of ye raises me a white-headed whale with a wrinkled brow and a crooked jaw, he shall have this gold ounce, my boys!2 Starbuck tells Ahab that he came to hunt whales, not his commanders vengeance. As the savage harpooners drink, Death to Moby Dick! Starbuck mutters, God help me!keep us all!3 Starbuck is well aware that Ahab will soon place all the men in immediate danger. Spending most of his time on deck and only seldom descending into the cabin, Ahab appears to be a sympathetic character in some aspects. During the night watches, old Ahab is on deck, pacing with his artificial leg. Ahab has been in search for Moby Dick before but Moby Dick escaped the loony captain. Ahab has been trapped in a world gone mad for an extremely long time. Since the day he was unable to catch the feared Moby Dick, his life was never the same. Ahab himself is trapped in madness and states, May God damn us all if we do not hunt Moby Dick to his death!4 Starbuck sees Captain Ahabs whale map and disagrees. Ahab defined he distinctly knew what he was doing, Dumb brute blasphemykills and mutilate out race. I would strike the sun if it offended me,5 and he would not let Moby Dick get away this time no matter what the circumstance. Ahab was well aware of the trapped world he was inflicting on the shipmates but was only out for one thing; his fanatical self. Therefore, the innocent men are trapped in a world gone mad the very day the ship leaves the dock. Ishmael, Starbuck, and Captain Ahab are all trapped in a world of tragedy. These men were trapped by the madness of Captain Ahab. It was indeed their freewill to board the ship, but when they boarded they were unknowing of Ahabs lunacy and hatred for Moby Dick. Peoples dreams can indeed make them ballistic and Ahab was one of those people. English Essays
